Husband and wife team Ben and Michaela McLeod combined their professional expertise more than eight years ago to establish Ag Evaluate, now recognised as a trusted agricultural contract research provider in the Canterbury region. Their work spans a diverse client base, ranging from major chemical and seed companies through to innovative start-up businesses.
Operating as Ag Evaluate, Ben and Michaela deliver independent pasture, crop, yield and animal research, tailored to meet the specific objectives of each client. They pride themselves on providing accurate, efficient and well-managed research projects from establishment through to final reporting.
Agricultural research has been central to Michaela’s career. Holding a B.Agr.Sci (Hons) and currently partway through her Masters in Horticulture, she brings over 20 years of seed industry experience. Michaela began as a forage agronomist with Wrightson Research and later served as Research Manager for Seed Force until 2014. Within Ag Evaluate, she leads client communication and consultation, oversees data collection and management, and is responsible for analysis and reporting.
Ben complements the business with strong practical expertise developed through hands-on farming experience and more than 20 years in agricultural fencing. His operational knowledge ensures trials are established, maintained and completed to the highest standard.
Based near Lincoln, the McLeods operate a small block suitable for small-plot trials and maintain much of the specialised equipment required for field research. They also draw on strong rural networks throughout Canterbury and beyond, leasing additional land when required to meet project needs.
With a commitment to precision, efficiency and clear communication, Ben and Michaela enjoy managing research projects from concept to completion — delivering reliable, independent results for clients across the agricultural sector.
